The Reasons You Should Not Go For Cheap Hosting

by foremylife, under Business, computer

There are numerous web hosts out there, all offering different hosting plans at different price points. Some are cheap, some are relatively costly. In this post, we will go over some of the rather important things you need to know about web hosting and how cheapest web hosting may end up costing you a lot more.

Doing your homework when purchasing hosting plans is thus recommended . There are quite a few reasons for this. For starts, moving from one web host to another all the time can be seriously time consuming. Once you find a good one with good offers for reasonable prices, and like their quality, you stick to them. It is cumbersome to keep moving files, databases and everything else from one server to another So, doing your research is crucial.

There are several web hosts out there, with quite a few having excellent reputation. When you go hunting for web hosting, you may come across terms and plans that make no sense to you. Windows server vs Linux hosting is one of the best examples. When I was ‘green’, I went for windows based hosting because of my experience, or the lack thereof . Later on, I found out that Linux based hosting was a lot more secure and there were far more options, in terms of the control panel, for linux based hosting. Thus, you’d only help yourself if you learn about the common terms used in the industry as well as the normal t&c.

Before you purchase hosting, look for user reviews. Webmaster forums could help you with this. Just create an account and ask for some recommendations. Be detailed and also talk about the research you have done. If you see a single host getting loads of good reviews, it might be good to start with them. As and when you outgrow them, you can shift to a better host which offers more resources, etc.

Ensure that your host backs up your data at least every day. Even if they ask for a nominal fee for this (many do), go for it. It, in my opinion, is absolutely justified and you shouldn’t take risk with your data. Technology can go wrong at times. You may delete something with the click of a button. Data backups are critical.

Lastly, my recommendation would be to not go to web hosting based on the pricing alone. While price can be an issue for most of us, you must not compromise and get cheapest web hosting that shuts down after a few week (and yes, it does happen). Most of these hosts have almost identical prices anyways. So, do you homework and select the best hosting for your needs.
